In this lecture, we’ll travel back in time to late nineteenth-century Chicago to witness an incredible moment of revival. Despite being left scarred from the Great Fire of 1871, the city had been reborn from the ashes in a position to become a beacon of both industry and art. We'll visually stroll through some of the best works from the museum's holdings that help to tell the story of some of the key contributors to Chicago's renaissance and the art collections they fostered. This lecture is presented by Alexis Culotta, a Professor of Practice in Art History at Tulane University and specializes in the art and architecture of sixteenth-century Rome.
